Tipene Harmer, is one of Aotearoa’s leading Hip-Hop Artists from Heretaunga/Hastings Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. Tipene is a prolific bilingual lyricist driven by his passion to bring an understanding of Te Ao Māori (Māori worldview) in his quest to uplift, empower and re-indigenise Māori through the power of his music. Tipene is a modern-day Kaikorero (orator), brought up in rural Aotearoa with strong tikanga Māori values that drive his approach to music. Tipene opens the door for others to embrace the depth and richness of Māori culture through hip-hop. Tautoko(2019) a fundraiser album for his late mother's funeral which brought together top tier collaborations like Scribe, Ché-Fu, Dam Native, DLT, Sid Diamond and Mareko, unheard of for a virtually unknown artist at the time. Tipene's debut single West Side Hori was an autobiography of his upbringing in Flaxmere. The track made the APRA Silver Scroll top 5 won by Lorde with 'Royals'. Second album Heritage Trail(2021) is a synergy of te ao Māori and hip-hop culture, providing a historic timeline of ancient Māori voyaging the pacific and discovering Aotearoa (New Zealand) captured in a modern Lead single Turangawaewae featuring Maisey Rika and Troy Kingi made the top 5 finalists for APRA Silver Scroll 2021, the first bilingual song on the list for 26 years. We No Muck Around E.P(2023) is the release featuring the lead single We No Muck Around propelled Tipene into the summer touring circuit with L.A.B. & Katchafire.
