Founded in 1993 in Kitee, Finland, Darkwoods My Betrothed quickly gained a cult status in the black metal underground with their two demo tapes ‘Reborn in the Promethean Flame’ (1993) and ‘Dark Aureoles Gathering’ (1994). The band released their debut album ‘Heirs of the Northstar’ in 1995. While the majority of the song material followed the demo tapes by featuring brutal in-your-face black metal with melodic elements, the album also introduced epic Viking metal anthems, occasional use of clean vocals in addition to the trademark tormented shrieking, and haunting keyboard passages. The second album ‘Autumn Roars Thunder’ (1996) followed the same musical direction while presenting more mature songwriting and the lyrical themes moving from Viking mythology to Finnish medieval history. The third album ‘Witch-Hunts’ (1998) was a return to pure black metal, as the band had decided to move the Viking metal material to a spin-off band called Furthest Shore. After 1998, the pagan flame of Darkwoods My Betrothed has been but a fleeting glimpse in the nocturnal darkness of Eastern Finland. But it never faded away completely. In 2020 the original line-up of the band decided it was time to continue the story and started writing material for the fourth studio album. 'Angel of Carnage Unleashed' was recorded in February 2021 and will be released by Napalm Records on 12 November 2021. Prepare for an onslaught of melodic black metal and epic majesty!
