Having been raised on 2000's pop, video game soundtracks, and classical music, David Kim's music embodies the eclectic style in which he grew up. While sonically each track differs from the other, through its core, each of David's songs carry the main thread of his musical DNA: emotionally charged melodies that draw you in with ambient textures and atmosphere, wild fusions of musical styles that envelop his love for exploration of unconventional tastes, and cinematic soundscapes that make you feel like you stepped into a movie scene. 
 Based out of Los Angeles, California, David draws from his own personal journey and influences of his upbringing/culture with his faith being the center of the heart behind his music. 
 His debut album, The Butterfly Island, is an explorative concept piece. The release is a production-oriented album that presents a cinematic experience with a narrative that relates close to himself. 
 The songs are about a boy exploring a world of escape and opportunity. He goes through the difficulties of survival, growth, and realizing the darkness of the world. There are themes and motifs of nature, adventure, nostalgia, and a deeper longing for eternal purpose in life. 
 The album art shows the boy growing up, leaving the island and his youthful reflection behind to face the world beyond the oasis, fully embracing his imperfections and uniqueness.
