Life is a rollercoaster. For We Tibetans a pretty wild one. Blighted, if that is the right word, by mental health problems and personal tragedy with occasional highs followed by the harsh truths of home and the ego deflation that comes with that. None of this is rock ‘n’ roll myth to We Tibetans. The Brit-rock fourpiece’s new track, and second single, White Knuckle Ride, while birthed from deep personal experience, yields an ultimately positive outcome that links neatly back to the band’s positive onstage energy and last gang in town unity. Songwriter and bassist Dan has said of the candid lyrical content. “In recovery there must be a brutal level of honesty in order to get well. I was very keen with this track not to use too much metaphor. The lyrics are a culmination of a lot of the difficult things I've had to hear from my friends and sponsor over the last couple of years. The intention was to be brutal but with an undercurrent of affection. Tough Love!” Indeed, the track itself is more hard rocking than hard drinking and more Munch than Monet. Dan has also cited AA as influencing the track and, having also been diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, White Knuckle Ride may add a further layer to We Tibetans’ growing musical catalogue and how they continue to resonate with their listeners without losing the live edge they are known for.
