Биография
b. 23 May 1942, Bristol, England. Wedlock worked variously in a youth employment office, a department store and as a teacher before his growing popularity as a comic singer and raconteur prompted him to become a professional entertainer in the early 70s. The essence of his diverting evenings in Britain’s folk clubs, arts centres and colleges was distilled on records issued mostly by independent companies such as The Village Thing, One Up and Pillock Produckshuns (sic). However, it was with Elton John’s Rocket label in 1981 that he enjoyed a yuletide Top 10 hit with ‘The Oldest Swinger In Town’ - co-written, produced and arranged by Chris Newman and long a highlight of Wedlock’s stage act - and much airplay for its follow-up, ‘Jobsworth’. This success however was a mere bonus in a career that has since embraced a Channel Four television showcase, Wholly Wedlock, and a BBC radio series with fellow west countryman Acker Bilk, as well as a ‘day job’ as a regional television presenter including shows such as Bargain Hunters.
