    The Heavy Pine is an alternative rock band rooted in West Michigan, focused on producing original music with an eclectic sound. The band was founded in 2015 by long-time friends Richard Barkel (rhythm Guitar/ vocals), Gary Knights (Lead Guitar/vocals), and Karen Barkel (Keyboard/ vocals). Bryan Knapp (Base player / vocals) joined the group in 2022. Rich and Gary played together in the cover band Sookie Jones from 2007 to 2013, as well as the original Rock band 3RD Acres with Bryan Knapp. The band is currently focused on writing, recording and producing new music at 3-Dog Studio, and plans to release their first album Seedling in late 2023.
