Background Character is a Chicago-based rock band formed in the fall of 2019 by Jenny and Bash. Refusing to pick a genre, they draw influence from jazz, R&B, death metal, math rock, ska punk, hyperpop, and more. Their first album, "The Garden of Gethsemane" was released on April 18th, 2020 and has a relaxing math-indie sound. The band followed it up with the "Edgy Youth Group Pastor" EP released almost exactly one year later. Background Character released their second album, "I Can See the Future" on November 20th, 2021 and spent all of 2022 touring and playing local gigs to support it. This album was entirely written and recorded while drunk and high, to method-act the feel of the chaotic and messy songs. To contrast this, Jenny took a sober year to write the band's third album, "Gorgeous" - set to come out in 2023. Background Character is a prank gone wrong, a cry for help, and all your projections of sonder.
