Биография

Sporting a satisfyingly aggressive Baroque grunge aesthetic, Minneapolis band Lunch Duchess hit a sweet spot you never knew existed with their debut full-length "Crying for Fun." Post-Trash raved: "Lunch Duchess’ debut is not only one of the year’s most clever albums, but it’s one of 2019’s best." Those ten songs carry on the tradition of the band's 2016 EP "My Mom Says I Have A Rich Inner Life," swinging wildly between intimate confession and flippant one-liners, between breathy melodicism and outraged belting, and between angular guitar riffs and mellow-toned bass and synth. Their EP "How It Ends" (release date: Aug 12, 2022) brings something new and unexpected: jazz influences that smooth out the musicians' typical jagged impulses. In this new collection of songs, we hear resignation regarding late capitalism and what it has meant for the planet, tentatively juxtaposed with hopefulness about new love. We also hear some of the same angst that drove much of Lunch Duchess's art in the past, but this time with more self-awareness. In the poppy and anxiety-laden single "Perfection," singer-songwriter Katharine Seggerman admits that "perfection" is a "bad word" unfit for real life and real relationships. Meanwhile, the band's penchant for odd time signatures and dissonant harmonies lives on in the EP's final track, "Over Now."
