    Huggabroomstik was born on January 7th 2001, in Harlem. Neil Kelly (Club Mate) and Dashan Coram (Secret Salamander) decided to create a band in response to their disappointment in the direction that popular music was headed. Dashan and Neil started writing songs with fierce urgency, sometimes in collaboration and sometimes in competition. Over the decade of their existence, Huggabroomstik welcomed a number of talented musicians to join their ranks, including several legends from the New York Antifolk scene (see: The REAL Sound of Anti-Folk). These included Toby Goodshank of The Moldy Peaches, Preston Spurlock, Dibson T Hoffweiler, Brook Pridemore, Phoebe Kreutz, members of The Wowz and Prewar Yardsale, and literally dozens more. When Dashan Coram passed away in 2012, Huggabroomstik was officially disbanded. Neil Kelly now performs solo (as Neil Rose Kelly), and with his siblings Luke and Joanna in the band Kung Fu Crimewave.
