At the age of nine, a young Joe Mungovan never could have imagined that begging his parents for a drum kit for Christmas would pave his way onto some of the most prestigious stages in Australia. When a near fatal skateboard crash would leave him in a wheelchair for 4 months and unable to drum, Joe taught himself guitar and unconsciously developed a style that is now described as ‘groove-based indie rock’. The now multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer creates music that is always bound to his first love of rhythm, while blending his knack for catchy melodies and introspective storytelling. Throughout his career, Mungovan has consistently constructed melodies that expand from traditional pop and rock songwriting structures. His songs have been played across Triple j, Double j and community radio, video support across Rage and MTV and press praise in Rolling Stone, Pilerats, Music Feeds, Au Review and The Music to name a few. Mungovan’s songwriting has also seen him nominated for an APRA Award and Golden Guitar Award in 2021, and a Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Joe has shared stages with acts such as Lime Cordial, Gang Of Youths, The Preatures, Paul Dempsey, JOY, Maddy Jane, The Vanns, Winterbourne and Brad Cox and performed at a variety of festivals including the Queenscliff Music festival, Caloundra Music Festival, Nannup Music Festival and Vivid. With full band in tow, Joe’s live performance is an experience not to be missed.
