*shels is a transatlantic collective based in California. The group formed in 2003 by guitarist/vocalist Mehdi Safa and drummer Tom Harriman after the disbandment of Safa's former project Mahumodo, UK underground post-hardcore cult favorites known for their blisteringly heavy yet melodic live performances and a series of critically acclaimed self-released EPs including 'Waves', which received 5KKKKK album review in Kerrang! magazine in 2002. *shels took it's name from the 1999 mahumodo EP, entitled shels and released it's debut, Wingsfortheirsmiles EP in 2004 on Shelsmusic, a record label founded by Safa in 1999 featuring groups such as Admiral Angry, *Ancients , Black Sheep Wall, Down I Go, Ef, Erlen Meyer, Parliament Of Owls, Pretend, Manatees, Latitudes, Sons of Noel and Adrian, The Ascent of Everest.*shels released their debut full-length studio album, 'Sea of the Dying Dhow' on 18 June 2007. The album received worldwide critical acclaim culminating in it being named one of the top albums of 2007 by Rock Sound magazine. The group would go on to release their sophomore album 'Plains of the Purple Buffalo' on June 27, 2011 and tour Russia & the UK. Currently working on their 3rd studio album with plans for tours in Europe and the US to follow.
