Биография

Connecting the unique female voice of Xana with pure rock & roll, and supporting it with aesthetic alternative selections, Rádio Macau was one of the best-selling Portuguese bands of the '80s and of the following decade. Rádio Macau got together in 1983, with a lineup consisting of Flak (guitar), Xana (guitar, vocals), and Alex (bass). Later on, the entries of keyboard expert Filipe Valentim and of drum wizard Ramalho completed the set. Their first album, Rádio Macau was out on the market only a year after their first meeting. Enjoying straight support from the public, Macau became famous in no time. Spleen, their second record, hit record stores in 1986, subscribing once more to the character of their music. It was then that the crew made its first international performances, mostly in Spain. However, their real breakthrough was still to come. In 1987, O Elevador da Glória, a pure and crude rock & roll album, launched the team to the top of the Portuguese charts, becoming their best-selling album ever. Two years later, O Rapaz do Trapézio Voador proved their skill to go further on their conceptions, making an indubitable fusion of rock with modernistic tones of pop. The band then entered a hiatus, almost declaring the group's end. It was in this period that Xana tried out her fist solo projects. Flak participated in several conceptual Portuguese bands. During this time, the squad released two more albums, Disco Pirata in 1991 and A Marca Amarela in the following year. More than seven years were needed for the band to get on the right track again. In 2000, Onde o Tempo Faz a Curva substantiated the crew's expertise in their musical growth, offering themes flying around the leanest sounds of pop, with additional features of drum'n'bass and other futuristic sounds. ~ Mario Mesquita Borges, Rovi
