Биография
Jess Ribeiro is an award winning singer songwriter inspired by artists as diverse as The Velvet Underground to Dusty Springfield. She has been compared to the likes of Karen Dalton and Cat Power. Ribeiro's second album ‘Kill it Yourself’, produced by acclaimed musician/producer Mick Harvey, dives headlong into hazy rock, landscape ambience and melodious 60’s psych. Ribeiro’s songs are cinematic in scope: it’s music that travels, across deserts like a Western, through city streets like Film Noir. Narrative and poetic, Ribeiro’s lyrics are rhythmic and evocative, conjuring images that are dimly-lit, but nonetheless electric. ‘Kill It Yourself’ was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize (AMP) in 2016 and her debut album ‘My Little River’ was awarded ABC Radio National Album of the Year in 2012. Praise for ‘Kill It Yourself’ was and still is monumental. Melbourne's Radio station 3RRR FM deemed it "A powerful collection... the songs are soulful, sorrowful, poetic and poignant; they traverse a range of styles, but are united through Jess Ribeiro's clear creative vision" and awarding it Album of the Week. Rolling Stone Australia gave it 4 stars and described it as "A frequently dissonant fever-dream... shimmers like a haze of heat” For Jess Ribeiro, making a record is a lot like falling in love: it’s a dive into the unknown with the belief that the currents will carry you. With album number three, the analogy could not be more apt..
