Forming in 2019, pop-punk act Woke Up Older burst onto the California DIY scene, bringing anthemic songwriting and powerful vocals to a high energy live show. The California quintet- Sebastian McAnulty [vocals], Scott Bolin [guitar], and brothers Jake Martin [guitar], Nick Martin [bass], and Luke Martin [drums]- spent the quarantine years reinventing their sound to blend the melodic sensibility of early 2000’s anthem emo with the sprinted pace of modern alt-punk. Their upcoming sophomore EP, “Such a Lonely Sound”, features Seb’s frantic and honest lyrics, belted over a hyper-caffeinated rhythm section and soaring lead lines. As themes tie together between songs, a thesis becomes clear: that the beauty and purpose in life is often clearest against the contrast of death and despair. There’s no other option but to dive headfirst into it all.
