Биография
Much has changed for MESA since they burst onto the scene in 2003. The release of their self titled debut album (MESA, 2003) rippled through the Portuguese music scene. With their sophomore release (Vitamina, 2005) MESA spread their wings. MESA threaded the needle between pop music appeal and the need to subvert it. Out of this paradoxical conflict two more albums are forged (Para todo o mal, 2008 & Automático, 2011). “Cedo o meu lugar” stands out both as a hit single and an aesthetic exercise, proving that experimentalism does not preclude João Pedro Coimbra from writing in a straightforward way. In 2013, MESA releases “Pés que sonham ser Cabeças” the first with Rita Reis on vocals, replacing Mónica Ferraz. Again yearning for a new identity, carrying a certain nostalgia for the past, MESA spirit themselves into a studio with the last six decades of music in their minds it became the third rail of the duo. At the time they realized the need to change the one thing they hadn’t yet: language. The first track to be born out of this seismic shift was “Asteroid”. It’s debut in June 2015 was well received, garnering accolades from long time and new fans alike. They dove into their studio process for the following months and emerged with a new album, “Loner” (2016). The end result is a perfect mix of their two identities, mellifluous vocals flowing seamlessly, intertwined around every note, mirroring the increasingly symbiotic relationship of the duo. 2022: what's next?......
