A new, ultraviolet feather in LA’s cap, Adron makes waves with her timeless yet wholly unusual musical oeuvre. Raised in Atlanta, she’s a singer/songwriter too rare to stay rooted in the South; there’s little of conventional America in this music. Her kaleidoscopic guitar work carries the influence of Brazilian eminences like Luiz Bonfá and Caetano Veloso, and her voice has the classic clarity and richness of Doris Day with the adventurousness of Joni Mitchell. Adron aims to distill the entire history and geography of pop music into her own alchemical creation; there’s careful structure, safeguarding the vintage pop nostalgia, but in the lyrics (when they’re in English) there’s play, humor, and a bare-hearted frankness too personal to come from anywhere but the present. A champion whistler, she incorporates not just melody but even birdcalls into her productions, a sonic backdrop evoking lush climes and opiate breezes. There’s no aggression in Adron’s world, no politics or posturing - only space, sensation and sentiment.
