The Winebottles were born in Phoenixville, PA in 1989. After an early one-year residency at the Ardmore Music Hall (then the 23 East Cabaret), they emigrated to Boulder CO, where they quickly found a welcoming audience at clubs like Tulagi’s & the Fox Theater. The early 90’s saw the band touring nonstop, releasing four albums on their own label and being one of the only bands featured on two separate AWARE compilations. At the time, AWARE was a major label feeding ground, launching bands like @Train, @Matchbox 20, @Vertical Horizon, @Guster, and @John Mayer. To say that The Winebottles loved their friends in fellow Colorado-based band @The Samples would be putting it mildly. In addition to The Samples, they also shared stages with @Echo and the Bunnymen, @Dada, @Miracle Legion, @Cracker, @Gin Blossoms, @Guster, @King Missile, @Better Than Ezra, @Moe, @Spin Doctors, @Edwin McCain, and @George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. Winebottles drummer Sam Young later toured and recorded with @Devotchka before playing with @The Samples for four years. Doug Murray and Sam Young are founding members of @Kick and the Hug (KNTH). Kick and the Hug picks up where The Winebottles should have left off, in the center of the room with artists like @Local Natives, @Bon Iver, @The National, @Band of Horses, @Lord Huron, or @Bright Eyes. While it’s not likely you’ll see The Winebottles playing a show any time soon, don’t dismiss the idea of single emerging from out of the ether.
