Born and raised in Middelburg, Sjoerd Van Kampen (they/them) is a singer-songwriter, producer and a multi-instrumentalist. In 2014, BÄSN was born. Having picked up the basis for an artistic career, Sjoerd has went on to live and work in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in pursuit of greater experience. This was the time that BÄSN has truly come to being, leaving no secrets be. The pressures of the finals of ‘De Grote Prijs van Rotterdam, 2016’ proved to be difficult to recover from. Quickly, BÄSN distanced himself from music, yet to find again: a comforting and inspiring endeavour in his life. In the end of 2017, they were back on their feet, crafting new bits and pieces of melodies that have developed into songs. The idea of openness to mistakes, was how the freshly released EP ‘Mistakes’ came into light. ‘Mistakes’ is a colourful creation full of instruments and catchy/groovy songs. Songs that tell about self-reflection, finding oneself and the good moments in life. The EP was released on Friday, the 13th of April, 2018. BÄSN is an organism: it grows, changes and constantly develops. It is inspired by sounds of such musicians as Neon Indian, Toro Y Moi, Beck and Car Seat Headrest. BÄSN plays both: solo and with a backing band. When on stage, the explosive energy of music finds its way through pores. The musicality forces itself out through energetic live shows. Sharing bliss through sound is its aim.
