Биография

Born October 1, 1953 in the Islington area of London, England, John Hegley had a handful of different jobs before finding his calling as a poet, performer, musician, and writer. Both a clerk and a nurse before turning to the infinitely more exciting world of ‘literate pop star,' Hegley initiated his career at the Comedy Store back in 1980. From there, he joined up with satirist group the Popticians, who scored a bit of a coup by getting a slot on the John Peel show in 1984. The group released a pair of singles, the 1984 double A-side "Spare Pear"/"Mobile Home," and 1986's "I Saw My Dinner On TV," and Hegley released his first book of prose, poems, drawings, and observations entitled Visions of the Bone Idol (Poems About Dogs and Glasses). For the next twenty-plus years, Hegley went on to publish another twelve books, including 2006's Uncut Confetti. After the demise of the Popticians, Hegley continued to make an impact in the recording arts world, releasing Saint and Blurry in 1993, Hearing With Hegley (A release coinciding with his BBC Radio series of the same name.) in 1996, and Family Favourites in 2006. Hegley also made a name for himself with his well-liked and well-received stage show, which included poetry, music, and audience participation. ~ Chris True, Rovi
