Achanté a.k.a. Chantelle Menezes is a Toronto/Mumbai based singer-songwriter who uses music as a medium of diasporic storytelling, combining her roots, philosophy and multidisciplinary art to create unique sonicscapes. Her memorable sound comes from a diverse upbringing - from 70s funk, soul and Disney in her childhood to gospel, hip hop, opera and Carnatic fusion in her adolescence. She carries a complex layer of identities, which she claims proudly and expresses throughout her music. Her debut single ‘The One Who Got Away’ created waves in 2022 and was featured by Rolling Stone Magazine. She is now working on recording and releasing her E.P. starting with ‘Serotonin Skies’ the first track, in March 2023. Achanté’s roots are Indian, where she spent two decades as a performing and recording artist (with Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman, Karl Jenkins, and featured on TV) and immigrated to Toronto in 2019. Since then, she has already amassed a growing local fan base headlining legendary venues like Lee’s Palace, Sofar Sessions, DesiFest, OBJX, Clinton’s, Harbourfront and Aga Khan Museum and played 40 live shows in 2022 alone.
