St.Petersburg-based sludge rockers YPRES have enjoyed a relatively obscure but solid presence from the band's inception in the early 2010s. Since then the band has regularly toured Europe and released a self-titled LP, later followed by a mini-album and three singles that showcase a stylistically evolving sound, moving away from minimalist doom and prototypical post-metal structures into a more varied and multi-layered sonic landscape that runs the gamut from dark country-tinged Americana to prog-leaning rhythmic flourishes, always in the service of powerful and melodic riffing. Recorded in early 2020 just prior to the latest stretch in global tumultuousness, SOLYPSO is the band's second full-length and effectively a summation for a 10-year phase in the band's musical journey so far. Engineered, mixed and mastered by long-time friend and peer Mikhail Kurochkin, it is the band's second collab with ORCHIDELIC's Sata on guest vocals, who also lent her talent to the band's cover of TYPE O NEGATIVE's Red Water in 2021.
