Jacob Smalley, known as JJ Smalls, is an upcoming rapper coming from Augusta, Georgia. After dropping several underground projects on SoundCloud, he would begin to take the next step musically when he would begin working on more fleshed-out projects. He is also the Co-Founder of Rhythm-Rhythm Records, an underground collective founded by Niiiki. On March 16th, 2023, JJ would take a short turn to singing, and re-release his classic R&B mixtape, HOMECOMING (Re-Release), shortened into an EP. On this EP, he takes on an alter ego named “Erik,” who sings about unrequited love and heartbreak. This album was recorded in early November of 2022, far before JJ Smalls would begin to work on Neon Static. Following HOMECOMING, JJ Smalls would begin working on an EP, titled "Working In Progress..." The point of this project was to hold listeners over until his next mixtape releases, while also showing what JJ can bring to the table in the rap game. It contains elements of Trap, Boom Bap, and even Cloud Rap. The EP was released on April 23rd, 2023.
