It’s a knack for holding up a relatable musical mirror that listeners can gaze into and feel seen, which they continue on their upcoming sophomore album, PILLBX: whts ur fantasy?. Writing & singing since the age of 5, Gaustad draws heavily from their personal life, with BLKBX inspired by their first 18 years with tracks focusing on topics ranging from anxiety to sexuality, including the LGBTQ anthem “Red.” “My goal from the beginning is to bring people together and to give those who have been marginalized a safe space.” PILLBX, meanwhile, zooms out on a fantasy world with Gaustad traveling through the adventures of their own imagination. “When you can’t change the unchangeable, what do you do?” is the question they pose on the album which Gaustad wrote and recorded themselves.
