this all begins with derek ivy making his first recordings in 1997 on a borrowed (and later purchased) 4-track Portastudio, playing all the instruments and learning to manipulate the multitrack recorder, bounce tracks, etc. since then, hundreds of tapes have been filled with songs and sonic experiments. that is where the seed of Golden Hours began. following the acquisition of an 8-track analog recorder, the first gh album, Nothing to Waste Nothing to Fake, was made and self-released in 2008 and features contributions from Beth Ivy, Isaac Ivy, and Josh McDaniel, as does 2009’s Winter Kills Us, on which Christy Anderson (The Healthy Home) also appears. Noise Is for Numbers, released in 2010, would be the last album to feature any such outside contributions. 2012’s Rapid Fiery Action was essentially written and recorded by derek alone. 2013’s Nightmares + Daymares is the most recent release. that album would be followed by an extended hiatus due to the deaths of friends and family members, coupled with a severe and near-fatal drug addiction. now free of that disease, derek is currently writing and recording a new album to be born into the world in 2022. via Ryan Bomar’s (River Trash) label Delta Fret, this music is available on Spotify and Apple Music. please stay tuned.
