Alberta-born Métis singer-songwriter Cynthia Hamar is no stranger to the Canadian music scene. With three studio albums under her belt and many kilometres on the road - including a tour across Canada by train (through VIA Rail’s on Board program) - Hamar can execute timeless songs that stand up with the sound of Buffy St. Maire, Tom Waits, and Feist. Hamar returns to the spotlight with a devastatingly haunting and introspective single “Shaken” (out June 24, 2022 via Neon Moon Records) from her much anticipated upcoming fourth album Joint & Marrow. Accompanied by an atmospheric and earthy roots arrangement, layered under the warmth of Hamar’s rich and highly emotive vocals, “Shaken” is both heartbreaking and hopeful - Hamar explains: “Shaken is an internal conversation about trauma; recognizing the deep groaning and the need to let go of the pain to embrace a brighter future. I originally wrote it to myself over the period of a couple years. Processing the change in our family dynamic, then a huge upset in my marriage. It’s written from a point of exhaustion, surrendering to a solution and I hope it inspires the listener to process their own pain and see the comfort in choosing to forgive and move on.” “Shaken” follows up Hamar’s most recent album “The Son and I”, a collaborative effort between Hamar and her then 18-year-old son Zadok.
