Back in 2018, in Quebec City, four long-time punk rocker friends wanted to do something different and try new directions in music. Vocalist Marie Desbiens had good composition ideas and grunge was a theme since all the members were fans of that music and era. The female fronted band was lead by their fully-assumed ADHD and their desire to produce catchy and energic alternative rock music, and Hipshot was born! Hipshot is taking Grunge and Rock music vibes, and blending it with pure punk energy. They like to use “Caramel-Grunge” as a new sub-genre to characterize their music. The thickness of the guitar riffs and the abrasive energy from Marie’s voice bring something new to the rock landscape. Their first self-titled EP was released in February 2019 and was followed by a good year of concerts in their own Quebec province until fall. The fan based grew pretty fast and they were becoming the talk of town. In September they won the “Envole toi pour la Chine” award through the amazing “Envol et Macadam Festival” initiative. They could fly to Hong Kong and China for a 12 headlining concerts tour that drew hundreds of rock enthusiasts. After the Covid outbreak, Hipshot turned this slow time as an opportunity and worked day and night on producing what will be their new upcoming EP. Their path crossed producer‘s Scott Hallquist for a new journey that re-defined Hipshot’s musical identity. So stay tuned and brace yourself for this new wave of “Caramel-Grunge”, punks!
