Gabbo is the solo project of 24-year-old DC-based songwriter Gabbo Franks. Their catalogue of work has spanned multiple genres, floating between experimental pop, folk, and emo. On their first release, Gabbo EP (mixed & mastered with help from Adam Thein & Henry Stoehr of Slow Pulp), Gabbo “blends soulful harmonies, emo laments, and pop sensibilities, all of which serve as the perfect bed for their truly confessional lyrics. ” (Penny Mag) Other projects include their 2017 lo-fi bedroom pop project Frankie Goes on a Walk, and their current full band 'lunar rock' project based in Baltimore, MD, Moon By Moon. Most of their more recent releases can be found dispensed among various compilations on Bandcamp via independent labels like Gardenhead Records (founded by Etai Fuchs, their partner & frequent collaborator), Knifepunch Records, Far From Home Records, Z Tapes, Oof Records, and more. As a teen in Salisbury, MD, they were heavily involved with Bangkok Blend, a now-defunct DIY collective with a lasting Bandcamp presence that served not only as the home for a majority of their releases under Frankie Goes on a Walk, but the catalyst through which Gabbo would be connected to many of their favorite musicians in the present: Hazelboy, Cusp, Full Body 2, The Most Beautiful Images (Created Only To Be Destroyed), Love and Other Emotions, and Baseball Dad, just to name a few.
