Биография
Makthaverskan have a dramatic take on indie pop that adds punk attitude and post-punk drama while still being suitably pretty and melodic. Fronted by Maja Milner's speaker-rattling vocals and played with desperate energy by the group, their early works served as a dark rejoinder to the bright, smiling indie pop of Sweden in the early 2010s. The band's first three albums delivered on this promise before they shifted gears for 2021's dreamily atmospheric För Allting. Formed in 2008 and giving themselves a name that references the Swedish word for powerful male, then giving it a feminine twist, the band was made up of vocalist/keyboardist Maja Milner, guitarist/bassists Hugo Randulv and Irma Krook, guitarist Gustav Andersson, and drummer Andreas Wettmark. After recording a demo, they signed with Luxury Records and released their debut album, I, in late 2009. The group next released the "Antabus" single in 2011, the same year Randulv and Andersson joined the shoegaze band Westkust. They continued to work with Makthaverskan, and the band's second album, II, was released in March 2013. The group followed it soon after with the "Something More" single. Makthaverskan continued to gain followers with their music and live shows, eventually catching the ear of the Run for Cover label, which released II to an American audience in 2014. The band's plan to tour the U.S. was foiled by visa issues, but they did make it to SXSW in early 2015, right around the time the "Witness" single was issued. When the group next hit the recording studio, it was minus Andersson, who had decided to go solo. The remaining quartet worked painstakingly with producer Hans Olsson Brookes over a three-year span on their third album, III. It was released by Luxury and Run for Cover in late 2017. After a spell of live shows and the 2019 release of a single, "Demands"/"Onkel," the group began their fourth album, now with new guitarist Per Svensson on board. Unlike in the past, the songs weren't fully worked out in advance; instead, there was space left for experimentation. Under the guidance of producer Hannes Ferm of HOLY, they added synthesizers, drum machines, and a shimmering coat of reverb to 2021's dream pop-influenced För Allting. ~ Tim Sendra, Rovi
