Биография

Born on the 8th May 1993, Karen DeBattista was introduced to music from a very young age, she started attending piano lessons at just 7 years. Her very first experience at a large-scale concert was when she was asked to form part of the Joseph Calleja Children’s Choir in 2010, where she also had a solo performance. From there onwards, she took part in a series of local competitions, kicking off with the Summer Hit Song Contest in 2010, before reaching the finals of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza in 2013 as a wildcard offered by Spiteri Lucas Entertainment and also L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2014, a festival which she went onto win with the song “Jien Ma Naħdimx”, written by Mark Scicluna and Rita Pace. Just a few months after winning L-Għanja tal-Poplu, as she was going through another energetic and positive experience during “Voices”, Karen got to know that she was a finalist in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 14-15 with 12, Baker Street written by Jan Van Dijck and Emil Calleja Bayliss. In 2016, Karen submitted a song for the ‘Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza’, reaching the final and therefore joining the competition with the song “Ħarstek”, composed by Mark Scicluna with lyrics by Mark Amaira, and ultimately being awarded 3rd place. She would return, to the competition in 2017 and 2018, taking part with "Minn Wara l-Ħasira" and "Il-Bikja" both composed by Mark Scicluna, with Rita Pace penning the former, and Emil Calleja Bayliss writing the latter.
