Scattered Smothered & Covered is an acoustic roots music ensemble from Richmond, Virginia. The band’s repertoire reaches far and wide, exploring a range of musical genres. Their sound, firmly rooted in American musical traditions including bluegrass, old-time, country blues, and early jazz, is on the one hand accessible and familiar, and on the other, new and exciting. Within a typical set, you may hear old bluegrass songs, re-imagined rock classics, entirely original compositions, swinging dance numbers, and maybe even some roots reggae. Something for everyone, and always a good time. The instrumentation, often associated with traditional bluegrass groups (mandolin, acoustic guitar, and upright bass) combined with tasteful percussion, allows for explorations into new musical territories. Rich vocal harmonies round out the sound of the group, lending a warmth that can be felt throughout each performance. The band has released four full-length studio recordings to date, spanning almost 20 years of playing music together.
