The Matriarch is a queer, fluid, feminist band based in Bloomington, IN consisting of Al Erftenbeck (vocals), Jo Hockemeyer (bass), Mal Babcock (drums), Mal Benoit (guitar), and Trevor Webb (keys). More importantly, The Matriarch is an exploration of music, identity, compassion, growth, sisterhood, what it means to be a beginner and what it means to do something for yourself. Their debut EP ‘Welcome to The Matriarch’ is out now and features five songs and five sides of The Matriarch—delving into beginnings, endings and the never ending cycles between. The Matriarch’s music combines floating, dreamy indie melodies with sharp rock instrumentation in unashamed expressions of passion.
