Elie & The Engine is the brainchild of two friends, Elie Sandberg and Erik Petterson Sjöquist. Heavily inspired by jazz and world music traditions, rock and singer-songwriting are at the core of their musical expression. During the fall of 2014, Elie joined Erik and his two university friends, Johan Almgren and Mickel Löfvenius for a gig. Shortly thereafter they decided to start Elie & the Engine. After just a few months they got signed by a local record label, Rexius Records, and shortly after that they released Bring The Light. This album was in fact already recorded by Elie and producer Andreas Gustafsson, but Erik made final editing and productions before the release. In the fall of 2015, Johan Almgren quit the band and got replaced by Viktor Lenberg. A year later Elie & the Engine released their second album Burglar’s Flight, consisting of a compilation of different recordings, some of which were early recordings made by Elie in different places he traveled to. The track Bay Jumping was recorded in New Zeeland, Kin and Hearts Of Humans were recorded at the facilities of art collective Not Quite in the province of Dalsland in Sweden. The title track Burglar’s Flight was simply recorded in an apartment in Gothenburg, also by Elie. One Track Mind, What I Am and Look Me In The Eyes were all recorded in Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg with Mickel Löfvenius, Johan Almgren and Erik Petterson Sjöquist.
