Described by pianist Leslie Howard as "one of the best musicians of his generation worldwide," Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi's mark on classical music is undeniable. At age 9, Tedeschi first performed a Mozart Piano Concerto in the Sydney Opera House. He studied piano in Australia with Neta Maughan, as well as in London with Noretta Conci and Boston with Peter Serkin. His career was launched when he won the Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year Award in 1998 aged 17, performing Alberto Ginastera's Concerto no. 1 with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jun Markl. In 2001, Simon was awarded the prestigious Centenary Medal by the Prime Minister of Australia, and in 2002 he won the top prize in the keyboard section of the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in London. A prolific recording artist, Tedeschi first signed a recording deal with Sony Music and his debut CD led to nominations for an ARIA award for Classical Record of the Year. He has recorded the Tchaikovsky and Grieg Piano Concerti with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Richard Bonynge, Leroy Anderson's Piano Concerto with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under Paul Mann and Mozart’s K488 Piano Concerto with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alexander Briger. Whilst classically trained, he has collaborated with instrumentalists as varied as James Morrison and Larry Adler (this last describing him as the finest pianist he ever worked with).
