The embryo of what would become Misery Oath actually began in the early 1990s. When both Daniel Berlin and Martin Landin played in Gothenburg metal bands, they shared stages with what would later put Gothenburg on the map with the "Gothenburg sound.” Daniel played guitar in Exempt, and Martin played bass in Intoxicate (still active). Their bands shared stages with acts such as Dissection, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity and Grotesque, amongst others. Many years later, the two met again and decided to start playing together. There were a few songs that they wanted to record. During the process, in the autumn of 2020, drummer Mauro Frison, with a past in various bands such as Cruachan and Alternative 4, joined. It was now obvious that a singer and a second guitarist were needed to complete the line-up and become a proper band. The previous rehearsal studio neighbors, Robin Olofsson and Robin Bengtsson, both previously playing together in Tragederia, joined in 2021. Olofsson on vocals and Bengtsson on guitar. Once the band was complete, Misery Oath was finally launched! Now the work of continuing to write and record the songs for an upcoming record had taken off. During 2022, Misery Oath played several live shows around Sweden. And then, in March 2023, their debut album, A Darker Path, was released. Their music has been described as dark melodic death metal, with a hint of “the Gothenburg sound” and a profound layer of Nordic melancholy.
