Tucson’s River Roses, one of the leading lights during the ‘80s/’90s desert rock explosion that also saw the likes of the Sidewinders, Gin Blossoms and Giant Sand come to prominence. The original line-up released two full length recordings: "Each and All" on Camper Van Beethoven's Pitch-A-Tent label and "When We Fall" on San Jacinto/Rough Trade. What’s interesting about main song-writer Chris Holiman is how remarkably consistent he’s been, musically speaking, over the years regardless of the setting: his gently keening vocals have always been a signature, and he’s always relied on the twinned stringed power of acoustic guitar strums with electric guitar painting around the edges, effectively making his songs instantly identifiable. Holiman has returned to the River Roses title with the new release "Swan Song”. After the death of original guitarist Gene Ruley, Holiman was inspired to return to the folk -rock/alt-country sound of The River Roses. Some of the songs reference Ruley’s distinctive pop country guitar, other songs ,like “Nothin’ To Du” have more of a chamber pop feel. The recording features Todd Pearson on drums and Terry Kyte on bass. A solid set of songs from a talented song-writer.
