Биография
Greg Fleming is a pioneer of alt country in New Zealand. One of his first gigs was supporting Texan legend Townes Van Zandt, afterwards Van Zandt took him aside and told him “Greg, don’t ever stop writing”. Greg didn’t and eight critically acclaimed albums bear out Van Zandt's belief. Get off at Lincoln sees Fleming’s band The Working Poor (from 2014 to present, The Trains from the 90s) traversing an eclectic range of material - including rock, blues, country, soul, folk and hip hop. “The title track came about after giving directions to someone on how to get to my house,” says Fleming. “If you keep your ears open anything can become a song!” “I love writers and musicians whose writing reflects a particular place - whether that's crime writer George Pelecanos' Washington D.C, Ronald Hugh Morrieson's Hawera or Lou Reed's New York. I've been writing about Auckland for many albums, but this one is really based out West. Every line of My Hood is true and I love where I live!” Reviews “In a country of fake folkies, Fleming is a consummate songwriter - a no-nonsense poet of Auckland’s urban sprawl... Like the great country songwriters (Townes, H. Williams I, George Jones) Fleming uses the everyday as fertile material — it doesn’t need a whole lot else." “...noir songs about late nights, tragic figures and chance encounters... with tough backing from Fleming's truly fantastic backing band... Evocative songs... wonderfully played and beautifully produced." Sunday Star Times
