a hopeless romantic with an old soul ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ Julien Deculus is a biracial 20-year-old retro/pop singer-songwriter and guitarist from Los Angeles based in Providence, RI. Growing up listening to 60’s and 70’s soul in the backseat of his father’s car, he nurtured a love for the music of yesteryear. When Julien picked up the guitar at age 9, his musical taste expanded to include pop artists who were similarly influenced by the musicians of that time. His writing has therefore become a product of the groove-based, harmonically complex sound of Stevie Wonder blended with the romantic essence and heartfelt melodies of John Mayer. Julien latched onto the emotional storytelling of these and other like artists, as it not only fueled his love for music, but also his love for love. Julien’s songwriting encapsulates the innocent and idyllic nature of falling in love and the disconcerting feelings of heartbreak. His latest release, an up-beat, catchy, sing-along called “Belle,” is the second single of a developing project. It expresses the unconditional yet unrequited love for a childhood friend. Julien works with his talented friends at Brown University to help curate his music and he performs around Providence with his 7-piece soul/pop band, Julien Deculus and The Golden Hour. He hopes to continue playing for and connecting with larger audiences across the East Coast who are eager to dance and find romance.
