Harkening back to the days of harmony driven vocals, steel-stringed rhythms, and melodies percolating out of a Mississippi saxophone, The Gardeners are taking this sound and modernizing it. With an emphasis on strong songwriting, meaningful arrangements, and playful storytelling, this Montreal-based band runs parallel to current popular music rather than within it, staying both rooted in the classics and fresh to the modern listener. Growing up in the western Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, the mountains, forests, and the wide open plains play a large part in the imagery of The Gardeners' music. Although they love to cover old country, folk, and rock n roll songs, their songwriting is really where they shine. The roots are present but what they do is not a throwback; their songs are songs of today. 
 When not making music, The Gardeners (Ross Fizzard and Dale Ross) enjoy swimming in lakes, petting stray dogs, wearing denim, and visiting the state of Texas.
