Биография

U.K.-based producer Phil Klein releases Miami bass-inflected new school electro under his Bass Junkie aegis. Appearing most recently on the Breakin' Records label and on his own Parallax imprint, Klein's Bass Junkie material draws liberally from classics of electro-funk and bass music -- from Freestyle's "It's Automatic" and Unknown DJ's "808 Beats" to Maggotron's "Planet of Bass" -- combining truckloads of samples with crisp, uptempo rhythms and, naturally, the deepest of bone-rattling bass. Although his discography includes a number of tracks released as Battle Systems, I.B.M., and Cybernet Systems, Klein's most popular work to date has been his Bass Junkie material, most likely via its association with the Breakin' Records label (associated with Rephlex Records recording artist DMX Krew). Following a pair of Bass Junkie releases for his own Parallax label, Klein began releasing records through Breakin' in 1997 with the Unknown Funk EP. An additional EP (In Bass No One Can Hear You Scream) and an LP (ºss Junkie) appeared through Breakin' in 1998. Klein's affection for bass music has also stretched into a long-running collaboration with one of the genre's most acclaimed early innovators Scott Weiser, a.k.a. Miami-based Dynamix II. Bass Junkie and Cybernet Systems tracks have appeared on a number of Dynamix compilations, with the label also issuing a full-length CD of Klein's Bass Junkie material in 1996. Bass Time Continuum followed three years later. Additionally, Klein and Weiser share a writing credit on the title track to Klein's Borg EP (1996, Panic Trax), and on several releases as I.B.M. ~ Sean Cooper, Rovi
