In 2015, Frej Jönsson left a skiing career to pursue music. He went to a folk high school on the Swedish west coast to study songwriting for a year. Attending the school were also two future band members to be: drummer Joel Jansson and guitarist Jonathan Källstedt. Upon graduating Frej returned to his hometown in the north of Sweden and joined the psychedelic rock band Adama as a live musician. Wanting to mix the folk songwriting sensibilities with the wall of sound and experimentation and emotions of psychedelic and alternative rock, Frej started his own music project in 2018: Swedish Love Story. Another source of inspiration was movies and their ability to capture and explore moments and feelings (the band name itself is from Roy Andersson’s classic film from 1970: A Swedish Love Story). During this time Frej attended a folk high school in Östersund where he met bassist Anna-Lena Edler. To expand the project and play live shows, he moved to Gothenburg and started rehearsing together with Anna-Lena and Joel. To play the songs as intended they looked for more band members and were shortly after joined by Nils Wästberg (who Joel had met at another folk high school), and finally Jonathan. After a year of playing and arranging together they started recording a debut album with songs Frej had written during the past years leading up to 2020.
