Irresistibly danceable, lovetempo is the new project from Brooklyn-based musician, producer, and singer Mattie Safer (The Rapture, @Poolside). Featuring Safer’s soft, sultry vocals and sophisti-pop sensibilities over a hypnotic blend of jazz-funk, disco, latin percussion, and house music, lovetempo’s unique brand of lonelyhearts disco is guaranteed to move you, body and soul. Their debut track, “Turnaround” is out now on NYC’s influential dance juggernaut Razor-N-Tape, with an EP to follow in the spring. Mattie Safer is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who cut his teeth in the New York City indie scene as bassist and vocalist with genre-bending dance-rock pioneers The Rapture. Their debut album Echoes (Pitchfork’s album of the year in 2003) set the world alight and introduced dance music to uptight indie kids across the world. Safer began working on lovetempo while on a European tour with Poolside in early 2020. Inspired by a broken heart and a desire to dance the pain away, Safer began writing songs, programming beats, and recording bass, synth & vocal parts in hotel rooms and stolen moments between soundchecks and shows. Returning home just days before the pandemic lockdown, Safer continued refining lovetempo’s sound from the solitude of his Brooklyn bedroom, bringing in remote collaborators: keyboardist Morgan Wiley, percussionists Brijean Murphy + Alberto Lopez, vocalists Mel Chambers + Meka Brown, co-producer/saxophonist Grant Zubritsky, and mixer Abe Seiferth.
