Monk Seals are a four-piece rock band based in Christchurch New Zealand however, originate from places unknown. Myth has it, their DNA was artificially constructed in an undisclosed location on planet Salame where their imaginations coagulated with the moisture of the sentient universe. Monk Seals music is a fresh take on funk rock and psychedelia, with deep blues undertones. Aiming towards a raw live sound, each member of the band brings an alluring and vital element to the music. Abel utilises his percussive talents to bring thunderous and sometimes, delicate drumming to the band. Not only this, he is known to captivate the audience with his passion for music and charisma when playing on his throne. Jono is a strange young man, people who have seen him perform in person have compared the intensity of his guitar playing to an exorcism. He is confident in many styles and is committed to creating worthwhile pieces of music. Yannik is a born showman who draws his energy from a faraway plane. His debaucherous nature leads him into all sorts of mischief but makes for plentiful songwriting material. Finally, bassist Chay is a skilled and confident musician with an impeccable ear for sound as well as a familiarity with a broad range of styles. In his solitude, he studies jazz guitar in a hollowed-out willow tree where he hones his skills. Human or not, he can play four strings with malicious yet graceful intent.
