Биография
Philip B. Price is best known as the leader of the New England's ethereal pop band Winterpills but his CV stretches to the 80s and draws on art-rock, lo-fi, power pop, brit-folk, and shoegaze. Price first formed the upstate NY post-punk band Memorial Garage with electronic musician Antony Widoff in 1986, self-releasing 2 LPs and a live album before a 1989 split. In 1989, Price retreated into his home studio. In 5 years he self-released 8 albums of diverse and devastatingly emotional rock. In 1993, bassist Max Germer coaxed Price out of exile and into forming The Maggies. From 1993 to 2002 they released 8 albums and 2 EPs of inspired power pop and became regional stars, signing to Jerry Harrison's short-lived Garageband Records. Wider success eluded them and they ended in 2002. Two solo albums followed: 13 Songs For Right Now (2002) and Honey In The Chemicals (2003), on Brooklyn-based Listen Here! Records. He toured solo (with John Wesley Harding among others) until meeting Flora Reed and forming Winterpills in late 2003. Joining Signature Sounds in 2004, they’ve released 7 critically lauded albums. In 2019, he released his 13th solo album, Bone Almanac. His 14th, Oceans Hiding In Oceans, was released February 19, 2021. Price co-writes with genre-bender Jonathan Lethem; plays guitar in Look Park, (Fountains Of Wayne frontman Chris Collingwood’s band); other projects with Grant-Lee Phillips, Frank Black, Walter Salas-Humara, Cliff Hillis and others.
