The City Lights rose from the ashes of Australia's John Reed Club. Started by brothers James Roden (vocals, guitar) and Harry Roden (bass and from Hoolahan) they were active from 2002 to 2014 in Sydney, Australia. They started as a 4 piece (with Danny Allen of Youth Group on guitar and Shane Melder of Sidewinder on drums), expanded to a 6 piece (new drummer Graeme Trewin of Peabody and Kit Warhurst of Rocket Science on drums and 3rd guitarist Bruno Brayovic from Peabody), then went back to 4 (James, Harry, Bruno and Graeme) before ending as a power trio (James, Harry and Graeme). They released one CD single, one CD EP, three CD albums and one farewell 7″ single. They played with You Am I, Supergrass, The Dirtbombs, The Mess Hall, Jet, The Vines, Magic Dirt, The Breeders and Rocket Science and hundreds more and toured Spain twice (once with The Smithereens). Their first two albums were released on Ivy League Records (Australia) and Bittersweet Records (Spain).
