Stephen is a singer-songwriter based in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Drawing from pop, folk, rock, country, R&B, and musical theatre, Stephen tends to put subject matter and mood first, and find the genre later. He centres the voice and the lyric in his music in order to focus on storytelling; Fridge Magnet Symphony as an album is largely a collection of personal anecdotes and intrusive thoughts, strung together through the common themes of love and self-criticism/self-reflection. Having grown up playing classical piano and performing in live theatre, Stephen has a lot of experience performing other peoples' work and exploring fictional worlds; it is likely in direct contradiction of this that his output as a singer/songwriter is extremely personal. "Fridge Magnet Symphony" is a metaphor for a couple different things. Firstly, for creating something new using pre-existing building blocks, like using fridge magnets to write a stupid message on your friend's fridge. With respect to the album, it is a way to pay homage to all the brilliant artists that inspired the stylings featured on it; the title track makes reference to 19 different songs by artists that inspired the album. It’s also a metaphor for making something cohesive out of seemingly random components — despite the genre jumping and vastly differing tones, every song feels essential to the album as a whole.
