John Peter and His Collaborators - Far Past Phoenix текст песни

Исполнитель: John Peter and His Collaborators

альбом: Bloom

Rain hammering down I needed a shelter
The road it crawled ahead of me like a snake
No sleep since Albuquerque I knew I was in trouble
But you ain't alert when you can hardly stay awake
The window-vipers going back and forth
With the thoughts in my mind
The prospects of my future and everything I left behind
Moving on already gone
Far past Phoenix
I thought about Katie and how happy I'd been lately
It was due to her that the last years had been so good
I wondered if she found that note that I left underneath her pillow
I hope she didn't cry I hope she understood
I locked myself out thinking I might not come back here no more
I had a pistol in the glove department and an unsettled score
Moving on already gone
Far past Phoenix
I met Katie at a roadhouse just after my divorce
She was a waitress then I was hardly anything at all
She said "You look sad" I answered "Yes of course
Self-pity has filled me up even though I'm quite tall"
She lit a cigarette looked me straight in the eyes
Said "You know it's the beginning so why pretend it's the end"
I had to laugh this woman was something else
"Well things get a little funny
When you lose your wife to your best friend"
On a beautiful day in May I was married to June
Under blossoms in bloom we made our vows
Jimmy made a speech about the dangers of marriage
We threw a party in the garden in front of our little house
When the wedding band stopped playing
That's when the trouble began
Until one day I found her in bed with my friend Jimmy
And I did finally understand
She was moving on already gone
Far past Phoenix
The green pastures of my boyhood where I ran freely
Between the hole in the wall and the ol' man river
With my Huckleberry friend Jimmy from next door
After school we would always be together
We didn't think our hometown was a place fit for us to stay
We made a raft and we would slowly drift away
Moving on already gone
Far past Phoenix
Yes I thought about Katie and that she's the girl I've loved the best
And decided that the past could rest
I made a u-turn and it was like a burden lifted from my chest
I was coming home happily heading back northeast
And I stepped on it I had wasted so much time
By letting it get ahead of me what should have been firmly at my heel
And again I thought about Katie and how happy I'd been lately
Just before I fell asleep at the wheel
There's so much I should've done different
There's so much I've done wrong
So many mistakes that pushed me off in the wrong direction
If you say that every minute matters
I 'd laugh at such an understatement
It doesn't take that much before you get blind
For even the greatest sensation
There ain't no mysteries there ain't no big secrets to be found
Life goes right through you it don't have the time to stick around
Moving on already gone
Far past Phoenix
The Cops came first and the scene it was a mess
The ambulance came just in time to pronounce me dead
Then they put me in a bag and drove me away
But I wasn't really there I was somewhere else instead
Well I can't tell you much of how it is on the other side
I bid you farewell I'm heading out of time
Moving on already gone
Far past Phoenix
