Lostwars is the sound of a decision to move forward. Started in 2003 in a cold Chicago apartment with a minimal recording setup, singer/songwriter Dereck Blackburn decided after a string of bands that went nowhere - he was ready to do something on his own. Under the strong influence of artists such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Richard Buckner, and Sonic Youth, experiments in sound coupled with traditional songwriting spurred a few short tours across the midwest and a rotation of dates at local bars. Initially depending on a Zoom drum machine and a borrowed ProTools system, he released an EP in 2004, now long out of print. After collaborations with other musicians and a period of time spent recording and mixing music for friends - 2009 saw the release of "Then End Of" - a work that found its time and place where it fit in among all the other noise of life. Since 2013 he has released a handful of singles on Bandcamp - and they are slowly finding their way here for a second life.
