Биография

With more than 200 compositions written together with Milton Nascimento, not mentioning an extensive array of first-rate composers, Fernando Brant is one of the most important Brazilian contemporary lyricists. In 1967, Brant penned his first composition in partnership with Milton Nascimento, "Travessia," which, interpreted by Nascimento, won the second place in the II FIC (International Song Festival). The song was included in Nascimento's first album, in the same year. "Sentinela" was another of the compositions by the duo to be presented in a festival. This time, it was TV Record's IV FMPB (Festival of Brazilian Popular Music), and the interpreters were Cynara and Cybele (from the Quarteto em Cy). "Travessia" and "Outubro" (also by the duo) were recorded by Nascimento in Courage. Milton Nascimento had "Sentinela" and several other compositions by them. Clube da Esquina had "San Vicente" and "Ao Que Vai Nascer" (with Nascimento), and "Paisagem na Janela" (with Lô Borges). Milagre dos Peixes had "Escravos de Jó" and the title track. Brant also wrote other songs that would be recorded by Nascimento and many other important interpreters: "Para Lennon e McCartney" (with Lô Borges and Márcio Borges), "Aqui, Ó" and "Céu de Brasília" (with Toninho Horta). Along with several other songs with other partners, Brant wrote with Nascimento "Janela Para o Mundo" and "Louva-a-Deus," included in Nascimento, the album which was awarded with the Grammy in 1998. "Maria Maria," "Planeta Blue," "Promessas do Sol," "O Vendedor de Sonhos," "Canção da América," "Saudade dos Aviões da Panair (Conversando no Bar)," "Encontros e Despedidas" and "Nos Bailes da Vida" are some of the other songs that have Brant's lyrics. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
