Биография

After fronting three-time Grammy Award nominees Los Terribles del Norte throughout the 1990s, Juan Acuña split to form a norteño group of his own, Juan Acuña y el Terror del Norte, at the turn of the decade. Best known for their corridos and cumbias, Los Terribles del Norte recorded numerous albums for Freddie Records during the '90s, including a trio of Grammy Award-nominated efforts: El Bronco (1993), Colgado de un Arbol (1998), and Décimo Aniversario (1999). Acuña (vocals, bajo sexto) split from bandmates Francisco Mendez (vocals, electric bass), Benny Mendez (accordion), and Jesse Tavar (drums) following the release of El Ultimo Paso (2000). While Los Terribles del Norte soldiered on with a new vocalist, Acuña formed a new group of his own, Juan Acuña y el Terror del Norte, comprised of Pablo Villaneuva (accordion), Rafael Dorantes (bass), and Raul Baez (percussion). They made their full-length album debut with Juan Acuña y el Terror del Norte (2002), followed by Pa' Toda Mi Raza...Eso! (2003), the latter of which was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Acuña y el Terror del Norte then moved to Univision Records for their next four albums: De Herencia Picuda (2004), Corridos Perrones (2005), No Se Que Traigo en los Ojos (2006), and No Me Rajo (2008). Their next couple albums, Me Siento Picudo (2009) and Corridos de Puro Pico...Eso! (2011), marked a return to Freddie Records. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
