Биография
Derek Senn released The Big Five-0 in June of 2022. Recorded with producer/engineer/multi-instrumentalist Damon Castillo, the 43 minute, 14 song album is his fourth release. Senn’s unique amalgamation of earnest, cheeky, angry, and absurd is delivered via a delightfully sensorial sonic stew. Derek spent the first 15 years of the new millennia honing his craft with an acoustic guitar, a notebook, and a Boss BR-1180 for home recording. In 2014 he reached out to John Vaderslice, the acclaimed indie musician and producer and proprietor of Tiny Telephone analog recording studio in San Francisco’s Mission district. A few months later, with Vanderslice at the helm, Senn recorded The Technological Breakthrough. Two years later, Senn and Vanderslice joined forces at Tiny Telephone’s new Oakland outpost where they recorded Avuncular. Each album was recorded in just six days to analog tape. For his third album, Senn opted to stay closer to home and make a go at digital recording. He approached Damon Castillo at Laurel Lane Studios in San Luis Obispo, CA. The digital route allowed Senn to stretch his legs a bit. The result, 2019’s How Could a Man was well received. It was the only self-released title on acclaimed music critic Robert Christgau’s best albums of 2019. Derek plays out occasionally and has had the pleasure of opening for acts such as Todd Snider, Paul Thorn, Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven, Storm Large, Sunny War, and Jeff Bridges.
